A total of 50 776 Namibians have completed Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy (TPT) from about 87 594 people who have been initiated on TPT since 2018.
This was said by Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Esther Muinjangue during the launch of the ‘Where is my TPT’ campaign yesterday.
TPT is a strategy aimed at preventing TB by ensuring that every person at risk, particularly if living with HIV or those with certain health problems, is at least initiated on a course of the TPT prophylaxis – to ensure that the risk of contracting TB is reduced.
Muinjangue however stated that it is worrisome that from the estimated 230 044 people living with HIV, there is still a large number of people who have either not started or completed the course of TPT.
She pointed out that the number of people who have completed TPT can be attributed to quality improvement collaboration within the ministry.
