Rugby World qualification fixtures released


Namibia will play its first match towards qualifying for the 2019 Rugby World Cup against Uganda here on 16 June 2018.

The match set for the Hage Geingob Stadium in the capital is part of the 2018 Africa Gold Cup competition, which will be used as qualification for the world showpiece in Japan between 20 September and 2 November 2019.
Namibia will then play Tunisia on 23 June at the same venue.

Namibia's Welwitchias will face Morocco on 30 June in Morocco, before clashing with Zimbabwe in Harare on 04 August and Kenya here on 18 August.

All set for Desert Dash 2017


All is set for the 2017 Nedbank Desert Dash race which kicks off at 15h00 on Friday at the Grove Mall in Windhoek and finishes at Tiger Reef in Swakopmund at 15h00 Saturday afternoon.

Speaking at the registration point at that mall Thursday afternoon, Head of Marketing and Communications at Nedbank Namibia Limited, Gernot de Klerk told Nampa everything is in place for the 369-kilometre cycling race which crosses the world?s oldest desert (Namib).

Woody Jacobs quits Pirates, joins Tigers


Orlando Pirates coach Woody Jacobs has quit the Katutura giants, after what he termed "lack of appreciation" from the football club.

Jacobs confirmed this to Nampa on Wednesday evening after witnessing the match between Pirates and the University of Namibia at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Jacobs tendered his resignation on Wednesday morning.

"I decided to leave Pirates because I felt I was not being appreciated by the management. I sent in my letter of resignation and they accepted it. No hard feelings from my side; it is on to the next project," he said.

United, Juve, Roma, Basel qualify


Manchester United and Juventus were among the sides to clinch a place in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, while Bayern Munich gained a measure of revenge over Paris Saint-Germain.

United, Juventus, Roma and Basel all went through with victories in their final group games, but Atletico Madrid, beaten finalists in 2014 and 2016 were eliminated.

Jose Mourinho's United side came from behind to beat CSKA Moscow 2-1 at Old Trafford as they reach the knockout rounds for the first time since 2013-14.

Young African crowned Debmarine champions


Young African were crowned the 2017 Debmarine Namibia Cup champions following their three goals to two victory over Mighty Gunners after extra time at the Legare Stadium in Gobabis on Saturday.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd, Gunners took the lead in the ninth minute when Vernon Klaazen put the ball into an empty net after a header by Uaondjavure Nakambare hit the upright, leaving Young African goalminder, Mbemutjiua Mata, a beaten man.

Both teams failed to keep possession, with passes going astray and possession changing hands frequently.
