Zandberg swimming camp hailed a success


About 35 swimmers from across Namibia and South Africa attended this year's Gerhard Zandberg training camp which was held in the coastal town of Swakopmund from 03 to 07 January.

Zandberg, a former world record holder in the 50 metre (m) backstroke discipline, a feat he achieved at the 2007 world championships and a revered 100m backstroke swimmer from South Africa, hosts the annual training camp to help Namibian swimmers for the long-course season.

This year's training camp was conducted by Dantie Louw, the coach of the Swakopmund Swimming Club.

Malembu appointed Rundu Chiefs coach


Former United Stars head coach and National Under-20 (U20) assistant coach, Shakes Malembu has been appointed as the new coach of Rundu Chiefs on a six-month contract.

This comes after Rundu Chiefs parted ways with their former head coach, John Sikerete, in December 2017 due to the club?s poor performance in the first leg of the 2017/18 Namibia Premier League (NPL) season.

The team finished the first leg of the season bottom of the 16 team-league log with 10 points from 12 matches played.

Rundu Chiefs chairperson resigns


The chairperson of Rundu Chiefs Football Club (FC), Jesaya Nangolo has resigned from his position.

In a letter sent to the secretary of the club on 25 December 2017, Nangolo said he is resigning as chairperson because of work and family commitments.

In the letter, which was seen by Nampa, he also said he would like to give other, deserving members a chance to serve in the position.

"I have been serving this club for a long time. I am now making it easier for other people who have new ideas, to take over," he wrote.

Salah is African Player of the Year


Prolific Liverpool scorer Mohamed Salah was named African Player of the Year in Ghanaian capital Accra on Thursday, the first Egyptian to win the award since Mahmoud al Khatib in 1983.

The 25-year-old has scored 23 goals in 29 matches in all competitions this season for the Premier League outfit after moving from AS Roma in the summer.

He also starred for resurgent Egypt, who last year finished runners-up to Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations and secured a first World Cup appearance since 1990.

Carroll brace gives Hammers win


Two goals from Andy Carroll gave West Ham a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at the London Stadium on Tuesday, lifting the London side out of the Premier League relegation zone and leaving their opponents without a win in 20 top-flight matches.

James McClean opened the scoring for the visitors in the 30th minute with his first goal for West Brom in 16 months, ending a solo weaving run with a shot from just outside the area.
