Tyson promises to shine during world title fight


Welterweight boxer, Bethuel 'Tyson' Uushona is confident that he will win the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) welterweight title when he steps into the ring against Poland’s Rafal Jackiewicz in December.

The fight is scheduled to take place at the Ramatex complex in Windhoek on 03 December 2016.

In his first attempt at the same title in June, the Namibian boxer failed as he lost the fight against Deniz 'El Pistolero' llbay of Germany.

Namibia Sevens Rugby team aim to play Safland finals


The team manager of Namibia’s Sevens Rugby team, Robert Dickson on Tuesday said his team is aiming to reach the finals of the Safland Sevens Rugby Tournament in Swakopmund this weekend.

Speaking at the handover of a donation of N.dollars 175 000 and vehicles by Novel Ford in Windhoek, he said the players are excited and have trained well for this competition.

“We believe that after our impressive performance in the sevens tournament we just played in Kenya, we can make it to the final. It will be fun to play South Africa or Germany in that last match of the competition,” he said.

Irate boxing promoters slam boxing board


Three top boxing promoters Tuesday slammed the Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (NPBWCB) with allegations of favouritism and non-professionalism among the recently appointed board.

At a media briefing, Iron Lady Promotions, Kinda Promotions and the Nestor Tobias Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy came out guns blazing, saying the current board appointed in September by Minister of Sports, Youth and National Service, Jerry Ekandjo is acting out of order on various issues.

Athletics need more funding: Beata


Namibian athletes will do better in international competitions with more funding and time for preparation to bring home better results and more medals.

Local long distance runner, Beata Naigambo said this after the annual Rene Kids Centre (RKC) Hardap Championship held in Rehoboth on Saturday.

Naigambo said athletes in Namibia are talented enough to be among the top athletes on the continent but are lagging behind due to a lack of funding in athletics.

She said athletics in itself is a career and should be taken seriously.

Haitope and Kauanivi win RKC Hardap Championship


Lavinia Haitope and Mynhardt Kauanivi won the women’s and men’s races of the annual Rene Kids Centre (RKC) Hardap Championship here on Saturday.

Haitope beat three-time winner Beata Naigambo to the finish line in a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes and 0.28 seconds (1:19:0.28) to win the open women’s category over 21 kilometres (km). Naigambo clocked 1:19:06.57 in second place and Sofia Nambabi 1:29:38.61 to end third.
