Non-government organisation, Lifeline/Childline Namibia, will host two social events to commemorate the 16 days of activism campaign against gender based violence underway in Namibia.

In a media release issued on Tuesday, Lifeline/Childline Gender Programme Manager, James Itana said the organisation will bring together community members from Oshikango, Omedhi and Ondobe villages in the Ohangwena Region for the commemoration, which will take place at the Helao Nafidi Business Complex on Friday.

On Saturday, a similar event will be held in Windhoek, bringing together residents of Otjomuise, Babylon and Okahandja Park at the Okahandja Park sports grounds.

The two events will invite key service providers such as representatives from NamPol?s GBV Unit, Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, and Women's Action for Development, Itana said.

The activism campaign is an annual international event that aims to spread awareness to prevent violence against women and girls.

It starts on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends 16 days later on 10 December, which is International Human Rights Day.
