President Hage Geingob said the free movement of people is a crucial pillar in realising the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA), emphasising the need for the finalisation of the agreement.

The ACFTA, which was signed by 44 African head of states, is expected to help African countries carry out trade across borders without any restriction.

Geingob made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday.

A media statement from State House on Thursday noted that the two presidents discussed bilateral cooperation in the areas of science and technology, tourism, businesses exchanges, investment and trade.

Describing corruption as a "curse", Geingob lauded the anti-corruption efforts of President Buhari, and informed him that he had undertaken similar efforts to fight corruption in Namibia.

Following the visit to Abuja, President Geingob travelled to Lagos, where he was received by the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Geingob informed Ambode about tourism and business opportunities that should be explored between Lagos State and Namibia.

"With Air Namibia flights recently introduced to Lagos, the opportunities are immense," he said.

Geingob will on Friday travel to Ogun State for the burial of "a mentor and outstanding friend of the United Nations Institute for Namibia and Namibia," Professor Adebayo Adedeji, the statement noted.

The president will also participate in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) symposium honouring the memory of its iconic former Under-Secretary General, Adedeji.
