Black Africa to put pressure on African Stars: Richter

Black Africa Football Club coach Lucky Richter said there is still hope that his side can clinch an 11th Namibia Premier League (NPL) title in the 2017/18 season.

Richter said this Tuesday night after his team's 2-1 win against UNAM at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

The coach told Nampa that if they focus on their course, nothing will stop them from becoming champions again.

"As a team, our objective is to focus on our course which is winning our games. The bigger picture will sort itself out," said Richter.

He said log leaders, African Stars, still have Tura Magic and Tigers to play and they are travelling this weekend out of town, which does not guarantee them points because anything can happen when playing away from home.

The coach added that the most important thing at the moment is for his outfit to keep their momentum in their remaining nine games of the league.

"We have a game on Friday and what will be nice is to add more pressure on African Stars by winning that game and reducing the gap to four points ahead of their Saturday away match," he said.

Black Africa will play their arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates, in the biggest Katutura derby at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, and Richter stated that he does not take his opponents for granted.

Black Africa will also play Life Fighters on Sunday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Black Africa are second on the log with 40 points after 21 Premier League games, and African Stars are top on 47 points.

Over the weekend, African Stars will travel to Tsumeb, where they will play Chief Santos on Saturday before travelling to Oshakati for their last weekend fixture against Young Chiefs on Sunday.

The last time Black Africa won the NPL was during the 2013/14 MTC NPL season, while African Stars have won the title three times, with their last triumph coming in the 2014/15 season.
